VILLAGE VOICE REVIEW
[...]Black Cat John Brown is full of similarly spacey grit. Aside from immortalizing one cat's life, songs celebrate Paris hangouts ("Kiss Me Bar"), argue with girls ("Lee J. Cobb Is Screaming a Lot"), or analyze loneliness and truth ("My Heart"). Melodies are buoyant yet kind of cranky; rhythms flare, cushioning the tunes in a skipping groove. Frontman Ralph Mulder's clear singing is matter-of- fact musical. It's all very indie, clued-in, determined, and held deliberately apart from the usual London-New York-Tokyo nexus. In European terms, it's all very Ohio. [full review]
TOM TOM BEAT
"Alamo Race Track = The Strokes + Peter Bjorn & John" [full review]

FILTER ON BLACKCATJOHNBROWN
From Filter Magazine (July '07): "Black Cat John Brown is quickly approaching "Young Folks"-sized ubiquity (...) A solid but confounding album of terse pop and wild-eyed indie rock largely overshadowed by the three aand a half minuts of quirky gravel road blues that overshadowes it. "
TRIPWIRE REVIEWS BLACKCATJOHNBROWN
From The Tripwire: "Black Cat John Brown, is definitely worth taking notice of. It's a calm and cool pop album with just enough tendency to rock that you'll never quite grow bored. (...) Popping back and forth, plucking notes, it's going to be hard not to start singing along. Plus, the Dutch accent that tinges the edge of Mulder's voice is addictive. (...) Alamo Race Track have got a good album on their hands, and with the right amount of love they should do quite well." - Read the full review.
